Amen. The NT presents the Christian life as a race. The devil wants to put us to sleep, thinking it's all over. But being awake to the challenge we can press forward and strive to enter in through the narrow door.

Salvation, is Eternal, and Jesus finished it on The Cross.

JESUS is Salvation
JESUS is Eternal Life
Jesus is Redemption
JESUS is THE Resurrection.

So, teaching falsely... that "we" are to pursue our own, as something we are to FINISH of ourselves.., denies The Cross, and substitutes self effort in place of God's Grace.

So............I'm still wondering what @Episkopos thinks of those Romans 4 scriptures. Will he address them?
I will do what you are unable to do...address the OP...in this case address what blocks your understanding.

Rom. 4:1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

Here we have a very foundational truth...that many who have NOT progressed beyond the first step of a beginner believe to be the final word. But Romans moves through this chapter....while most people won't. This is a process of going from a human faith into the power of resurrection and eternal life. At this stage we are still in the power of the flesh.

This is pertaining TO THE FLESH (Sarx...in the sin nature...in the power of the flesh) so while people are still NOT spiritual in Christ. It's about what we can do BEFORE regeneration. There is a level of righteousness on THAT level...a human righteousness.

2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

People can be justified either by faith OR by works. But Paul is defending the justification that is NOT by works Why? Because entrance INTO Christ and the higher justification is ONLY by faith. Paul is being very specific on the path that leads (the flow chart, as it were) into eternal life. Is eternal life entered into by works? No. Only by grace through faith.

3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

It certainly does. But the bible also says that Phinehas was ALSO justified...by killing 2 people...a work...and it was credited to him (imputed to him) for righteousness. Did Paul know this? Of course. But he wasn't interested in a pathway ( a flow chart) that didn't lead to holiness. Paul's specific explanation has to be understood in the context of the whole bible. Or else people will obscure the path to life.

4. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

God will repay. Grace is a gift. At the level of grace the rewards are very different....not of debt...but of God's good pleasure. Faith pleases God.

5. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his FAITH is counted for righteousness.

The ungodly are the non-Jews the non- Christians. The very people that religious bigots quickly condemn. So then those who hold this dogmatic judgment on the ungodly are NOT justified. God has mercy on the merciful. We all start off as ungodly. This is about the very first step.

6. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

7
Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

David was NOT regenerated in the Spirit. He calls on God to judge him based on his own righteousness...according to the power of the flesh.

Notice this...
The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me. Ps. 7:8

David understood that each person is to be judged according to THEIR righteousness. (unless YOUR righteous exceed that of hypocrites)....

Further proof that Paul is speaking about the common level of righteousness achievable by faith.....human faith.

9. Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

10. How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

11
. And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

Twisters of the bible will add in...Of Christ...or Of GOD to that imputation. But Paul is speaking specifically of those who are NOT yet in Christ. The imputation of righteousness on those who trusted in God is an OLD TESTAMENT standard. Like the Publican who beat his chest and stated that he was NOT worthy. Did he then justify himself as so many now do? Of course not. Otherwise he would no longer be righteous. The righteous NEVER consider themselves as righteous...only the SELF- righteous make that claim. Sound familiar? Do you claim to be righteous based on your religious beliefs? If you do then you have nothing whatsoever to do with Abraham and the lesson that Paul is explaining.

12. And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

BEFORE regeneration. Before knowing the Lord.

13. For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. (Therefore “the meek shall inherit the earth” – is not through their own works/righteousness but through the righteousness of faith)

Heir of the world...NOT the kingdom..NOT the holy city. Paul is speaking of the lower walk here.

The meek are ALL the meek...not those who have experienced resurrection life...but all those who have faith in God. No mention of Christ in this chapter.

14. For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the PROMISE made of none effect

No need to follow a law for justification if one trusts in the living God to do the impossible. God loves our faith...not our religious beliefs and the assumptions and presumptions that arise from a religious certainty. God rejects pretenders. He hates hypocrites.

Since you want to stop at the beginning...you will not understand anything beyond the very first step of the Christian walk....in fact...you will go backward...more and more. Unless you see the progressive nature of the walk.

No mention of Christ in this chapter. NO mention of holiness. No mention of eternal life. And so many are stuck right there...at this beginner stage. But these JUSTIFY themselves as believers as if they were far more advanced than being the novices in the faith that they truly are.

false. You refute the commands of Christ...seek first the kingdom. If you really believed what you teach...you would seek to enter INTO Christ. But it's all religious posturing and self-justification based on that posturing. Salvation into eternal life is real...not to be toyed with.

"Jesus came into the world to save SINNERS"........ not those who seek the kingdom.

The born again, you need to understand, are IN THE KINGDOM......"born again into it".

So, seeking it, is not the same..... as being "translated from Darkness .. TO LIGHT">.....and that is to become "ONE with God".... "In Christ".. .born again as a "NEW CREATION">. = which is to exist in the KOG.... forever.

Not so. Read the parables of the kingdom...and the cost TO US...to enter therein. You are unwilling to deny yourself of pay the price of a full consecration to the Lord? Fine...but don't go spreading lies about the kingdom.

As we seek and pay the price God is merciful and translates us into His light...His life...His holiness...His kingdom. So few have experienced that except in their imaginations...based on a name-it claim-it religious scheme that people justify themselves with.

Jesus paid the "cost" for all believers to enter into "ONE with God" "In Christ". = "Born... again".

See The Cross of Christ, for that update @Episkopos

Its "the GIFT of Salvation".. 'The GIFT of Righteousness", and "The GIFT of Eternal life".

You dont work for a "gift".. You dont earn a "gift".. You dont strive for a "Gift".

So, this anti-Cross theology that you teach, this " ultra self righteousness"... is seriously : Galatians 1:8

Amen. The NT presents the Christian life as a race. The devil wants to put us to sleep, thinking it's all over. But being awake to the challenge we can press forward and strive to enter in through the narrow door...making sense of all the exhortations from all the NT writers AND Jesus Himself.

Love in Christ..
:)
The problem is you enter it. You don;t stop at the entrance and keep trying to get through it.

Once your in your in., Now you spend a lifetime running the race of life..

Think of it this way, Once you enter. The door is sealed (the HS)

Modern day pharisees reject the cross

They don;t need it. They think their works are good enough.

False. Anti-cross is to live uncrucified. To deny what WE have to give up. Any old self-interested person can claim the benefits of Jesus for no cost. A dime a dozen. No value to God or the church...or the world.

3 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you [a]that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed [b]among you as crucified? 2 This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? 4 Have you suffered so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain?

Why is it you promote works of the flesh to maintain salvation?

False. Works of the Spirit prepared in advance. Read the bible. We will ALL be judged by our works. Ignore the bible at your own peril.

False. Jesus died for the sins of the WHOLE WORLD. Read the bible. He was raised for His people....after they have also been crucified with Him...paid the price.

Teach it like this, after you study those and understand them.....if that is possible.

john 3:16

John 3:17

2 Corinthians 5:19

False. Anti-cross is to live uncrucified.

Anti-Cross is to teach falsely against The Cross.

Its to teach a subversion, that denies the Cross.

When we say....>"THE Cross' we are talking about Jesus's Sacrifice of Himself as : John 3:16 .

We are talking about.. "JESUS came into the World, to save SINNERS">.... not those who try "enter in".

Any old self-interested person can claim the benefits of Jesus for no cost.

Salvation is to reap the ETERNAL benefit of what Jesus died to offer us, as "the Gift of Salvation".

Salvation is not your "martyr complex" theology, whereby you have this idea that you can equal what God has Provided, or be worthy of it..

You're not.
You're not worthy of Salvation, @Episkopos ... No one is worthy.

But God so loved the world of sinners that He did this..

"The them that worketh NOT....but BELIEVETH on GOD...who JUSTIFIES THE UN-GOD-LY... our FAITH is counted (by God), as (Christ's) Righteousness".

lol.

Works are for Gods children. Not for those who are not his children.

Again, Why are you trying to replace the work of the cross with your filthy rags? What do you reject the fact your lost with no hope apart from the cross.. and can not save yourself no matter what you do? Because your already guilty. and continue to be guilty

You'll be "judged by every idle word"..

Also, there is no Judgment for the Believer, as will be found for the Unbeliever, in Eternity.

Why?

Because Jesus has been JUDGED to DEATH, on THE CROSS for ALL our sin... already.
amen

the wage of sin is death. Not good works..

You just contradicted yourself... If we are judged even for every idle word...then believers are judged HARDER than non-believers. To whom much is given, more is required.

Those who break the law...death. Even WORSE for those who cheapen grace (outer darkness).

False. Jesus died for the sins of the world...not just the church. For your scheme to work, God would have to be respecter of persons...which He is not. Read the bible.

Christians, (the born again) will never be judged, in this sense........

"The wrath of God, resides on the UNBELIEVER". John 3;36

The judgment for your words finds you down here, as words are planted in the spiritual realm, and that reaps you a consequence.

"sowing and reaping" is not just the deed, its also a consequence of what you SAY.

The OT says that your own mouth sets your LIFE on fire..... That your own words, bring destruction to yourself, or blessing.

That happens DOWN HERE.

However, there is the "bema seat" and that is different, as that is the place where the Lord will take a look at "what you did in my Body".

This is Heavenly rewards for service.......= "judgment seat of Christ"

Even WORSE for those who cheapen grace (outer darkness).

You are the one who said that the Cross of Christ is not about "forgiveness of sin".

So, you are the very one who needs to be thinking about what you just posted.

Thats a fact. @Episkopos and that fact is on you.

I said "world".. and i posted John 3:16, that says "for God sol loved the WORLD"

And I posted 2 Corinthians 5:19, that says that "God was in Christ in the world, not counting sins against people".

So, open your bible, and put your commentaries away..

There is a "day of Wrath".. and the Born again are not going to face it. = Thank you to JESUS, on the Cross.

The Born again, meet God... after we die....as our FATHER.

The unbeliever, never born again, meet HOLY GOD as ETERNAL JUDGE.
