Don't look in scripture Mary, look at Jesus. Scripture won't save you or give you new life. Only Jesus can do that. Ask him. Find a quiet place and just talk to him. Ask him to show you if what I've said is true. Ask him to open your eyes and to give you understanding. I know it may go against the teaching of your church but Jesus teaching is more important. I am not saying these things to undermine you in any way but because I know how wonderful it is to have that new life. He does not turn away anybody that comes to him.
The word of God won't save me? Interesting....

I look to Jesus and the teachings of the Apostles. They never had a "spiritual birthday" to become Jewish. What is good for the goose is good for the gander!

And still you argue. If you don't 'get' it you won't be saved whatever your Catholic priests tell you. Jesus is the only answer. Think very carefully about what I said. Losing face is better than losing out.

And you don't need a spiritual birthday to become Catholic, Anglican or Methodist. But you do need a spiritual birthday to become a Christian.

Truth matters

It does, but you are repelling people from the Truth by the way you are treating them. Just take it easy and try being friendly. Wasn't it Jesus who hung out with sinners? Wasn't it they who needed a doctor? If we are sick, why aren't you shedding your own sense of Grace and Mercy upon us? Or, do you like to berate those who you think are on their way to hell? If we are sick . . . rub medicine upon us, not poison. :)

Good Morning Pearl,

Thank you. Did you decide which books are in your bible? Or did someone decide that for you (us)?

You feel that you "have the authority through the Holy Spirit living within me and with his help and guidance to read and interpret scripture." The Apostles had that same authority to interpret Scripture. Does/did their authority supersede your authority? When the Apostles had a disagreement on Scripture interpretation how did they settle that difference? Did each individual Apostle have the authority to declare what was good to the Holy Spirit (Acts 15:28)? I am really trying to understand your theory.

For me to come into my own free will to Jesus is not the same as feeling I have authority to properly interpret Scripture. I don't understand your analogy.

The believers that formed a community in the 1st century, during the time the Apostles were alive, recognized the authority of the leaders of The Church; the Apostles. Since you practice what those early "believers" practice who in your community of believers has authority? Since you practice what they practiced have you sold your property/possessions?

Hebrews 13:17, of which the 1st century community of believers practiced, says that they were to obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Who in your community rules over you and is watching out for your soul?

Mary

Lk 10:16
He who hears you hears me...

John 13:20
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

Ummmmm.....and still I argue????? I don't get it???? o_O Is it possible you are arguing with me and you don't get it???? Since that is not possible I apologize for arguing with your authoritative interpretation of Scripture!!!

Show me in Scripture where one needs a "spiritual birthday to become a Christian" and I will join you in your basement with your 5 friends at your next community of believers meeting!! Will I have to give up all my possessions on that day? In which meeting did you give up all of your possessions? :)

Mary. I'm the saved one here. I am pointing the way to Jesus for you but of course if you are already saved then you do not need anything more. Jesus came for those who recognised their need of him not for those who thought they didn't need anything more than their religion.

John 14:6
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 3:3
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

Scripture won't save you Mary, only Jesus can do that. But looks like you would rather be a Catholic than a Christian.

But if you hear me you can be both.

I like the things you write, @Pearl. Unfortunately, though, the general "Christian" doesn't understand the Gospel, either. Until the Church, and that means any church, recognizes the Holy Work of Christ . . . the Gospel will not make a lick of sense to anyone (though people will believe they understand).

Whoever accepts Colossians 2:9-15, that person will be on the path to understanding not only the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but the entire Bible as well. Enjoy!

Colossians 2:9-15 KJV - "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 [And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it."

I absolutely agree with you and I'm so blessed that even though my first church was Church of England (Anglican) the vicar was born again and Spirit filled and both he and his lovely wife took the time to disciple me and lay firm foundations. But it seems that some prefer to put their religion and their church's teaching before Jesus. And like you say we can't ever have a full understanding without the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:14
The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

Matthew 7:24-29 The Wise and Foolish Builders: Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

People like this are like the foolish builders who built their houses on sand.

Great post, @Pearl!

1 Cor 2:14-16 is the result of the Holy Operation of God, the Circumcision of Jesus Christ. When the Veil is removed, the cutting away of the Sinful Nature, a person is then able to see the Glory of God (this goes back to the Veil of Moses), and when a person recognizes the Glory of God, which is the Truth (in this case), they can know with full certainty that they not only Know God, but more . . . they are Known By God.

1 Cor 2:14 is not possible without Colossians 2:9-15 . . . which is why Col 2:9-15 is the utter Core and Heart of the entire Bible.

Thank you for your post! You've helped me update my study notes on the passage you gifted us. :)

How could I possibly know about Jesus if not for Scripture???

How could I possibly know how to be saved without Scripture???

Without Scripture how would I know their are 10 commandments that I must keep?

Without Scripture how would I know about the two verses of Scripture you quoted??

Your theories are very interesting I must say.....

Okie Doke. So much for the reasoning that I have provided.

Can't get anywhere with this kind of discussion.

that’s what the Bible says!

John 1:17
For the law was given by Moses, but graceand truth came by Jesus Christ

and Christ came by Mary the mother of God Lk 1:43

and the mother of our salvation!

Lk 2:30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation! And she is his mother

To me it doesn't sound as if you are because you can't put a time on when you were born again as an adult.

Scripture can't save you or anybody else Mary, only Jesus Himself can do that. Of course scripture can show the way but it can't save.

How could I possibly know about Jesus if not for Scripture???

It's not enough to know what scripture tells us about him, we need to know him in a relationship.

How could I possibly know how to be saved without Scripture???

I am telling you how to be saved. Others will tell you same things. Only perhaps not those who have taught you wrong things.

Without Scripture how would I know their are 10 commandments that I must keep?

Keeping the ten commandments doesn't make you a Christian any more than reading your bible does.

Without Scripture how would I know about the two verses of Scripture you quoted??

Did you already know them. That's good, it's a start.

Your theories are very interesting I must say.....

These are not 'my theories' Mary. They are the beliefs of all true born again believers - of which there are a good few on this forum.

This is a Scripturally-bankrupt statement - as are MANY pof your posts.

We are vorn again at BAPTISM, as per our Lord (John 3:5).
This goes for Catholics, Anglicans, Methodists and ALL Christians who are Baptized in the name of the Triune Godhead (Matt. 28:19-20).

Sorry but you are wrong. We are not born again at baptism. Choosing Jesus has to first; choosing him of our own free will not at the behest of a parent. Once we have chosen Jesus then we should be baptised and also receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We need to be born of the Spirit before we are baptised, If we aren't then the wetting is meaningless.

I was "born again" the bible way. By baptism with water and Spirit......Just like Scripture says and Christianity has taught for 2,000 years. His promise is for you and our children.....just like scripture says.

You accept a 500 year teaching. I accept a 2,000 year teaching. And since your a Protestant you can't tell me I'm wrong because as a Protestant anyone can believe/practice what they want as long as they feel the Holy Spirit guided them to that belief.

Ummmm....how can you know Jesus without Scripture??? They are not mutually exclusive....Your theory makes no sense.
