Yes, perhaps for many but...I would not include Aspen in that as, he does have a heart for God and is a good reader/studier (sp?). I'm sure God will honor that as he seeks Him. Also, 2 protestant Church's I had attended in the past, were teaching erroneous interpretations so, it's not just Catholics. I do not believe in much of their beliefs but then, there are also some Catholics that do not necessarily agree with ALL of their interps. Look at @amadeus for instance, he's a denomination all his own I don't think I would 100% agree with ANY denom. non-denom. Just have discernment and a right heart with God, and His Word IMHO ♥

I agree in many respects. 1 John tells us that we don't need any teachers, if we have the Holy Spirit (1 John 2:27). I think most evangelicals believe pretty much the same things on major doctrines. They differ a bit on non-salvific issues but that is okay--none of us is a perfect vessel of the Holy Spirit. I have learned a fair bit from those who I have opposed from a different theological angle.

If you have a universalist type christian belief , I can see why you would have the make believe idea that God will eventually lead everyone to heaven regardless of who they are listening to, however that is not what the Bible states. Christians are warned to turn away from those that preach a False gospel, to beware of false teachers & wolves in sheep's clothing for a reason.

Pastors tend to repeat themselves when they are sharing the gospel - most people have heard it over and over and over and over.....they are bored listening to the same shallow headlines of the gospel AND they are comatose when ministers dive deep into mindless histories of dead people, which they mistakenly believe to be scholarly or deep theology. It is not! It is boring and tedious and has nothing to do with the gospel we are called to share.

Interesting. I have been to several churches like that. I am going to a Quaker church on Sundays and Mass every other day. Quakers are pretty free about allowing people to preach - it is a lively bunch

Our church was brilliant like that. If you had something to say you could go to the front and share it anytime during the meeting. And if you felt you had a subject for a preach then you were encouraged to do so. There were probably about five regulars as well as the leader (pastor) and also guest speakers. For a long while it was a good place to be and I felt I was in the right place but I began to feel uncomfortable.

First of all - even if you do have friends who claim to be "Catholics" - it sounds like they are Catholic in name only and it pretty much stops there. Yes, I often think of the churches of "Christendom" as being ships/boats in a marina. The Roman church is a very barnacle-encrusted old ship whose captain and crew are miscreants who have thrown their navigation equipment overboard. The mainline Protestant churches are newer ships but have become barnacle-encrusted, as well as being out of diesel fuel. They are mostly dead in the water. The prosperity gospel and mega churches are cheaply-built wooden boats that are taking on water. And the conservative evangelical churches are seaworthy yachts but headed for the shoals, because their captains and navigators are asleep at the controls (while most of their passengers are on-board for a good time and are drunk). A few churches are nice little fishing boats but the owners are nursing home residents. In addition, the marina is often harassed by "birds of the air".

I quite like the NLT because the narrative stream flows well and it is plain language--great for kids. I have checked it against the New American Standard (widely regarded as the best Greek to English translation for the New Testament) and have not found it to be out-of-kilter. I would definitely stay away from Eugene Peterson's The Message as I believe it does serious violence to the meaning of many passages.

I would agree somewhat except that Protestant churches have been (at least in the past) more geared to salvation than the Roman church has been for a long time. There are individual parish priests who are concerned with that but the hierarchy mostly could care less about their parishioners and care much much more about wielding power and wealth.
