Yes, perhaps for many but...I would not include Aspen in that as, he does have a heart for God and is a good reader/studier (sp?). I'm sure God will honor that as he seeks Him. Also, 2 protestant Church's I had attended in the past, were teaching erroneous interpretations so, it's not just Catholics. I do not believe in much of their beliefs but then, there are also some Catholics that do not necessarily agree with ALL of their interps. Look at @amadeus for instance, he's a denomination all his ownI don't think I would 100% agree with ANY denom. non-denom. Just have discernment and a right heart with God, and His Word IMHO ♥
I agree in many respects. 1 John tells us that we don't need any teachers, if we have the Holy Spirit (1 John 2:27). I think most evangelicals believe pretty much the same things on major doctrines. They differ a bit on non-salvific issues but that is okay--none of us is a perfect vessel of the Holy Spirit. I have learned a fair bit from those who I have opposed from a different theological angle.
