Schools have spent nearly $200B of COVID-Relief funds with little oversight or impact on students. $393K to rent out a Major League Baseball stadium, $86K in Caesars Palace hotel rooms, $60k in swimming pool passes, and even an ice cream truck. All of this money was drawn with zero documentation.

Thank you for the summary.

Update: from the Dept. of Agriculture—-$324,000 for DEIA integrated pest management.

In the last 4 years, if you wanted a government research grant, include DEI or climate change and watch the $ come your way.

By the way, universities across the nation are (quietly) removing their DEI departments—imagine the money the states can save, too.

Peace

Oh, how I've been preaching this for years. Why waste money on other countries, when people here need the help. Give us relief from our income tax burden. Isn't there an income where you don't have to file? There should be. How about keep my taxes and call it even. Nope, instead I have to hire an accountant and still have to pay. Homelessness and affordable housing is needed, but not low income housing that breeds crime. Just think, if in the last 40 years that money had been applied to problems, where we would be today.

U.S. Department of Education Updates Guidance on COVID-19 Funding

FEBRUARY 19, 2025
In line with President Trump’s commitment to increased transparency and accountability regarding federal expenditures, the U.S. Department of Education today announced it is updating its policies related to the remaining $4.4 Billion in state COVID-19 Pandemic relief funding.

Beginning today, all future payments under the CARES Act, CRRSA Act, and ARP Act spent on allowable expenditures must be paid by the states in advance and then submitted to the U.S. Department of Education for reimbursement.

Prior to this announcement, states could draw down on existing awards to pay for approved services without proof that the funds were used for authorized purposes.

The Department is changing the requirements to ensure taxpayer funds are expended responsibly, and will require states to keep the receipts to confirm this.

All expenditures must fall under the approved expenditures as outlined in guidance for ESSER, ARPA, and HEERF.

Instead of improving outcomes for students, here’s where taxpayer dollars were going: -

$4.6M contract to coordinate zoom and in-person meetings -
$3.0M contract to write a report that showed that prior reports were not utilized by schools -
$1.4M contract to physically observe mailing and clerical operations
