Prices are soaring due to bird flu.

I'm not an egg eater but my neighbor said eggs are $12 a dozen here in Los Angeles.

I recall when we purchased these #10 cans of egg crystals for $30 a can (and I thought that was crazy expensive)

If you look at the price of them here

They are selling for $140.00 for 2 (#10 cans) which is 144 eggs (total) or which is a little under $1 an egg). This price has been set for a few years in these cans. I am glad I purchased most of them before they reached this price. And so this price has been holding for for awhile, even before there was a shortage.

And we were wavering between getting more chickens or not a while back (because we used to have them but we dont anymore). The chicken hawks got what we had left. But when we considered the cost for the building, a larger caged in fencing, feed, and dealing with predators (and the typical time span for laying eggs) and a few other things made us change our mind. So we did opt to take what we would have spent on all of that and just rolled it into buying those eggs.

Obviously, you cannot enjoy fried eggs with these but you would have enough to make the various recipes that call for eggs and at least have scrambled eggs (they taste amazing, as if from fresh).

But even if just came down to rationing (for a time) and you got a hankering for fried eggs you can still let you enjoy a few of those if you had to (without breaking the bank) offsetting the current cost of eggs now. And if you live rurally, you can always head over to a neighbors house who has egg laying chickens and see if you can buy or trade something for some fresh eggs.

I just saw a video of what someone called "crisis actors" in the stores trying to get people to panic buy and raise the price of eggs further. So much of this is manufactured its hard to believe what you watch isnt manufactured just to get people worked up further.

I don't understand this bird flu thing. Farmers are killing the chickens. The eggs are fine. People do not get bird flu. Cook the chicken, cook the eggs, that's going to kill anything in them. I'll still buy the eggs. California is quacko over this. Eat fish instead, cook a nutritious bread, beef is good protein. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

I guess they kill the chickens because they think the bird flu will spread to other birds.

I loved all the puns in the reporting. - LOL
"Breaking news."
"Crack the case of egg burglaries."
"Customers scrambling for eggs."
To mention a few.

We (two of us) typically buy 1-2 packs of 60 egg count packs per month. Running about $27.50….or $ 5.00 + per dozen.

Only thing we knowingly buy from California is Olive Oil, which is surperior to even the Middle East.

Australia
When we go back in history on chook farms, the chickens were once free range but health issues, i.e. Bird flu, was creating havoc in the free-range chickens back then so the farmers decided to keep the chooks in big sheds to stop the bird flu from being transferred into the chooks because of the free-ranging practices at that time. Because chooks like to fight and have a pecking order, the farmers decided to separate the chooks by building individual cages so that they all had the same privileges within their confining cages. The chooks were feed and watered and the eggs collected automatically, and the sheds were able to be kept clean because these cages were off the ground and because of the sawdust spread on the floor to catch the bird poo, the farmers had a fertilizer product that they could also sell to the market gardeners for them to grow their vegetables in. We had relatively cheap eggs and vegetables in the shops.

But low we have now gone full circle and have found that we returned to the problems that created the caged chook batch farming methods. In Australia the chook farmers have moved their sheds away from civilization and permanently drained all their dams to discourage the wild birds from living close to the chook sheds to minimise the possibility of their chooks catching the bird flu from the wild bird population.

The sheds also reduce and controls the foxes' and pythons' problems of their habit of having a free dinner on chooks.

The sheds also helped to contain the rat and mice issues as well with their ability to keep the sheds clean.

Problems only come when we think that we have a problem that needs to be fixed. Caged chooks were perceived to be a problem that needed to be fixed but the whole control issues, of free-range chooks, were never considered and now we have a supply issue because of this and the re-introduction into the chook sheds of bird flu of both eggs and chook meat impacting how we live.

Climate change is also perceived to be a problem but the bigger problem that has grown out of these perceived issues, is that the population is encouraged to turn away from God and begin to act God-like to overcome the claimed problems.

God tells us that He is in control of the weather, pestilence and locusts, but people find it real hard to humble themselves and to confess their sin of collectively turning away from God.

But how dare I reduce all of our problems into the state of our relationship with Him collectively in our respective lives.

Shalom

Good ideas. Support your local backyard farmers.

So we need to both steal the eggs and the chickens?

I'm starting to feel like Jack and the beanstalk.
