That is a good question and one I pondered also. In searching I did this is what I came away with and why,
Just those 2 verses, commandments, alone does not tell a person who the God is. So would need to be more specific. You would need to understand this is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Abraham had many sons, so just to say the God of Abraham does not mean it is the same God. We don't know what the other sons ended up following and believing in. God made it specific for a reason.

Exodus 3:15 (KJV) And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

So understanding this re the commandments to Israel, to me then means yes it would save them from hell, they would be counted as good and saved OT saints. Why?

I don't think Israel had this understanding though of just those 2 commandments, it was Christ that showed it to them and simplified the commandments. To me people of Israel who did this would be considered good.

So what would be the difference then in our belief of Christ? To me it is the difference between death (sleeping) till resurrection, vs belief in Christ, you never die pass from death to life and to me is not judged is what this verse is saying.

John 5:24 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

John 11:25 (KJV) Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Am I right? I don't know, but this was how I sorted it out and just my opinion.

Hello @NotTheRock, how often would someone have to do that (love the Lord their God with ALL of their heart and ALL of their soul and ALL of their mind, and love their neighbor AS THEMSELVES, that is) to make themselves worthy of receiving eternal life from God (apart from the shed blood of the Savior). If someone could do all of those things just once, for instance, would that be enough

Your problem is who knows 'only' about the great commandment?
And how did they hear, what else was said that they are ignoring?
Else where you ask3d about a devout Muslim woman, she may know this command but is not following only it. She will also be following Islamic rites and rituals as she worships a false God.

Your neighbour may know this command, but they will also know something about Jesus and will mean no matter how they fulfil the commandment, if they know about Jesus they have to investigate and trust/believe in him.
