By hearing someone preaching from God's word or by reading God's word. There is no other way.

God’s word comes with power and penetrates the heart of his child.. as it was HIS will...as his word says.

Spirit gives birth to spirit...I don’t need to search the scriptures searching for what it means to be Born of God.

Christianity is being persecuted today but it varies in degree. On tue USA, life is still good ... until Islamic terrorist cells start to raise havoc. In southern Sudan, we see persecuted Christians and in countries like China, Russia, Ukraine or any Muslim territory we seen persecution throughout history.
Heb. 2:1 We do drift sometimes and need to stay focus on things above. We get caught up on daily tasks, worldly things and need to check ourselves constantly. Of course we need to participate in the race, be obedient, stay focused on Christ. Others will see us doing something and they'll rebuke us: "What the heck are you doing?" ... "What were you thinking?" So we repent, ask forgiveness and get back on track. This happens in life. We are constantly reminded to walk in the Spirit, not by sight, not influenced by fleshly desires and we fail sometimes. But we don't lose our salvation. People trip and fall in a race don't they? But they get up, brush themselves off and move forward. We are talking about decades of living in this world, the ups and downs we go through, wins, losses, periods of despondency, depression, doubt, illness, deaths of loved ones. Imagine being a parapalegic for most of your life? Can you endure that? We need to remember Job when things get bad ( and they will in the coming Great Tribulation) and draw from that kind of strength and faith, when everything is taken away.
We might one day be subject to terrorists threatening to chop our heads off. What will you do, cry like a baby, denounce your faith and allegence to Christ to save your neck; or just stand firm, look them in the eye, tell them Jesus is my Lord and Savior, He is waiting for me and ask them if you can sharpen the blade with a smile and certainty that you are going home very soon?
It's journey that requires faith, a gift given to us. Some have little faith and we need to come alongside them and encourage them. "Encourage one another" is repeated 40 times in scripture, because we need it. But we will endure to the end.
