Undocumented but it is well known claim from Paul Cameron. Cameron is the founder of the Family Research Institute but before that he was a professor at the University of Nebraska. While there he published a hocking study at just how deviant and disease ridden homosexuals were. it didn't take long to expose the fact that his research data was fake. He was fired from the University and lost his license to practice psychiatric medicine. This particular claim comes from his infamous "obituary study" Cameron collected the obituaries of gay men...exactly how anyone could tell someones sexual orientatoin from an obituary is a mystery. and then, according to his own notes first removed any homosexual's obituary that had died of old age before calculating the life expectancy...dissatisfied with the result he then removed any obituary of someone over the age of 60. and then 55. Eventually he got to a number he liked and self published this as a scientific paper.

What is interesting is that Bell and Weinstein also collected information of heterosexuals frequenting the same sort of clubs and they found 45% of heterosexual men had more than 1000 partners.

except the book referenced was a journal about 34 couples the authors happened to know. Which shows....something about the people they authors knew but nothing that could be generalized.

GRID was a set of symptoms that could not be connected to a pathogen. Once the HIV virus was found it's name got changed for the simple reason, most of the people who had it weren't gay men but African women.
