We can make ourselves feel like we're victorious, but all you availed was to think I ignored another man's stirred up flesh.

Aw, come on, GE. We're still pals, aren't we? I mean, after all, we went to two different schools together!

I woke with a thought and the thought was “sweaty fear.”
That’s what happens when a man is about to really be blessed. He comes against harassment that is not in any way hidden but very out in the open, arrogant, childish, and a bit surreal, to the point where the man thinks, is this some kind of joke…? Satan knows he’s about to completely lose even any small hold or sway he has on the mans mind and emotions and he’s in a sweaty, panicked fear, having lost all guile and subtlety. I’ve seen this happen so many times that it’s unmistakable.
I’m rejoicing for you Barny!

One thing I marvel over is…how does he know what’s about to happen? Is it like when satan resisted what was coming to Daniel or is it something he has noted in the man himself that makes him know what is coming…??like, does he know before the man himself even knows? Yes, he does…otherwise, he would not be pitching such a childish fit and trying to use the flesh of others to get a rise out of the man…

The sabbath is also for relaxing and letting our spiritial batteries recharge.
Just look at the number of students who kill themselves because of over-swotting 7 days a week, which leaves their tired minds open to demonic attack.
Just look at the number of young people who aren't students who do the same thing!

I don't know about you, Sis. I thought it was me you were referring to as being nasty. Maybe you were, anyway.

Anyway, I'm rejoicing right back atcha!

One thing I don't understand:

To my understanding, the natural man is totally depraved. Were it not for the restraining power of the Spirit of God, we'd all be flaying each other, I think. Actually, we'd have never made it past Adam and Eve. Looking even further back, the justice aspect of God, if not tempered with the mercy aspect, would dictate that Lucifer would have expired upon having his very first vain imagination.

Understanding, of course, that we have this treasure in earthen vessels and that words like justice and mercy are really just linguistic corruptions of ideas and ideals that God must resort to penetrate our thick skulls and hardened hearts.

I'm not sure if I'm laying this out coherently, but:

You speak much of the inner and outer man, and I know and agree that it's a legitimate Pauline metaphor for the 'higher' and 'lower' powers. Higher being the inner man, so to speak, and so on.

But, before conviction, aren't the higher powers/inner man totally depraved as well as the lower/outer?

And, unless eternal security in the extreme sense is valid, doesn't the inner man struggle with a propensity toward total depravity, albeit less and less so, if he is advancing in wisdom and stature?

Because, sometimes you almost seem to depict the inner man as unstoppable in ever-increasing conformity to the image of God and godliness. I'm probably just making sure here that I understand the tendency to progress rather than decline to be the default attitude of your expression, as a rule. Would I be correct in that assumption, would you say?

Of course, we're speaking of the never-ending mystery, which is practically impossible for man to utter, a la 2 Corinthians 12:4, but nevertheless:

Is it possible, though, to give the "inner man" too much credit?

I know, after all, that that's the part that has to be changed. I also have heard a theory (and I tend to agree) that lust is not actually evil and that, in fact, lust is practically synonymous with the outer man and lower powers/passions, which are meant to keep us from starving to death, failing to be fruitful and multiply, etc., and therefore must be battered/disciplined and brought into subjection by the higher powers/inner man under the control of the Spirit.

Do you know what's missing here?

The Gospel.

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

For when
we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement
.

I know I've practically started a new thread here, but you seem to have that effect on people (lol), and I don't think RD or any of, for that matter, is getting much done here, anyway - lol.

Think I'll start a new thread: "The Gospel And The Inner And Outer Man." :D

No one is speaking against taking time off from work, nor of seeking spiritual rest in Christ.

It's the resting day of the Lord in Him everyday, not a commanded Sabbath.

The sanctification of the commanded Sabbath was bodily only for physical rest, including for the oxen and land.

All Gods words are meant for the inner man, despite men trying to make them for the outer man. They are all Spirit and truth and the kingdom of God is not food and drink and don’t touch this or that. That is to say, the kingdom of God is not for the outer body, but for the inner man. Jesus said the words I give you are Spirit and truth. He also said if the inside of the cup/inner man is clean, the outside is as well.

This is true in that the law is spirtual and holy; however, the Lord's Sabbath was commanded entirely outwardly, at first as a test of obedience in the gathering and baking of manna, and then in the law of Moses as a day of physical rest, including the oxen and land.

The Sabbath did not become spiritual in practise until the death and resurrection of Jesus, where the inner man rests daily form his own dead works, whether they be sinful or his own righteousness.

The Sabbath foreshadowed only, and now is not named at all for the people of the Lord, except to not judge by it.

However, Paul says to accept the weaker in the faith (but not to doubtful disputations). So he says not to judge the man who looks at one day as more holy or who won’t eat certain foods, and to ALSO not judge the man who sees all days alike as holy and knows he can eat all foods. So Paul did not see this matter as a doubtful disputation but rather as a matter of conscience and the freedom to honor God as our conscience tells us.

There are men on both sides of this matter who judge, (and even if they do so without speaking a single word about it!) But that’s what Paul said NOT to do. He said to ACCEPT those still weaker in faith.

True. We are not impose our liberty upon the weaker conscience, and the babes are not to impose their weakness on the liberty of the grown in Christ.

Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?

And we are also free to rebuke them that make weakness into some sort of dominating strength, whether it be commanding sabbaths, certain baptisms, or added holiness standards to the flesh.

Sabbath commanders today are as commanding circumcision, and abstaining from meats.

o STOP WORKING OUT EXCUSES. GOD'S LAW IS FOR TO CONDEMN TO DEATH THE MAN THAT SINS - ALL OF US, THE WHOLE OF US TO THE WHOLE DAMN SINNER CAST IN HELL!
This is what I like to see, rather than the mealy-mouthed dissimulators.

A commandment preached, but not judged by, is no commandment at all.

So, let's see if your stand is altogether honest:

There are those who teach it is acceptable to work on a sabbath day, if it is required as part of their career, such as in the military, police, or emergency response.

When they do so, their pay for that day goes to the offering plate.

Do you agree with this kind of sabbath, or not?

I don’t think the natural man is totally depraved. I think he’s a mix of good sometimes and bad sometimes. I think we have a built in restraint of conscience but it can become utterly seared if we ignore it or if we were raised very extremely abusively. Even our conscience can be wonked with and we be made to feel guilt we shouldn’t through adept manipulations and not feel guilt when we should.
We know BOTH good and evil. We’re a mixed up mess. Yes, the heart is wicked and self centered and without our conscience, there would be no restraint ever I guess. But we do see a mixture in most people. God says even of unbelievers, their conscience can tell them they’ve done good or bad.
