We often hear Bible Believing Christians say: “Well, it doesn't make a difference what you believe, as long as you're honest and do the best you know how.” But a careful study of the Scriptures will convince anyone that Our Lord and the Apostles thought differently:

  • Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: (Isa. 1:18.) T
  • To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. (Isa. 8:20.)
  • Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. (John 7:16,17.)
  • But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. (Matt. 15:9.)
  • And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: (Eph. 4:11-15.)
  • Now the spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (1 Tim 4:1.)
  • For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. 9 10
  • Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. (2 John 7-11.)
  • Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. (Rom.16:17.)
  • But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: (Titus 2:1.)
  • Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. (Titus 1:9.)
  • In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, (Titus 2:7.)
  • Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. (1 Tim. 4:13.)
  • Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Tim. 2:15.)
  • If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. (1 Tim. 4:6.)
  • Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. (Heb. 13:9.)
  • But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: (1 Pet. 3:15.)
  • And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. (2 Tim. 2:2.)
  • Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. (1 Tim 4:15,16.)
  • Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. (2 Tim. 4:2.)
  • Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us. (2 Tim. 1:13,14.)
  • All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (2 Tim. 3:16,17.)
  • And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32.)
The truth must be sound doctrine, and if we are to be made free only when we know the truth, then surely it is of vast importance that we know the truth

I would add, simply, that there's only one way to arrive at that Truth as well.

Study scripture on your own, with the Holy Spirit as your guide and teacher.
1 John 2:27

Study it thoroughly, cover to cover, and make daily progress; praying for divine assistance as you go.

Test every single doctrine you encounter, from churches or fellow Christians, against scripture. Using the Bible as the template of Truth, lay it over any concept you come across for fit. If it doesn't align perfectly, throw it out in favor of what God's Word teaches instead.

God bless.

Agreed. Yet you seem to have gone off the rails in some of your posts and I even pointed this out to you.

The Bible says that God will have all men to be saved AND to come unto the knowledge of the truth. The truth is found in the written Word and God, and the Holy Spirit will guide all believers into the truth, provided they do not resist the truth. Unfortunately there are too many people on Christian forums resisting the truth.

Psalm 119.89 and Psalm 119.105 are other verses that stress the vital need for the Word of truth...

I would add the whole word is truth nothing has been finished, done away with or abolished words from our Master's Yeshua's own mouth. Gen 1:1 right through to Rev 22:21 is all for a believer the whole lot. I heard a saying once. The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed. The New Testament is the Old Testament revealed.

Malachi 3:6 God is the same He doesn't change.

When understood and received by one's who have ears to hear this has massive ramifications to how to read and understand the words of our Father.

This is reinforced by Yeshua in Hebrews 13:8 Yeshua is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Yeshua is the word and was in the beginning. To say the Old is done away with is to say Yeshua is done away with.
All the New Testament verses quoted above need to be understood in the context of the Old Testament.

I noticed the name of the one who wrote the original post. Berean. This is a group of people Paul went to, who by the way are Jewish. They tested everything Paul said and taught hence the term be like a Berean. Guess what? They didn't have a New Testament as it was not written yet. The only scriptures they had was the Old Testament called the Hebrew scriptures The Tanack. They weighed everything Paul said to the Old Testament and realized what he was teaching was true. Think on that for a moment.

Standing on your own and not relying on anyone else is very dangerous as there is no accountability it is good to be teachable and allowed to be corrected in doctrine and theology. There is an arrogance when this is not allowed. When we are on our own we see what we see and in some cases what we want to see. Having others perspectives and insights is incredibly valuable. To say I am just being led by the spirit is erroneous. Some people don't realize nor understand what Spirit they are being led by. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, when someone says they are being led by the Spirit, and then do not live and follow the way our Father says to worship Him and follow Him well guess what they are not being led by the Holy Spirit. It is quite easy really not rocket science.

Shalom

Malachi 3:6 God is the same He doesn't change.

He doesn't change, no need to. How would God change. What we see through the annals of time is; the way he has handled humanity does change. We call them dispensations, but scripture shows God handling humanity different at different times! That needs to be looked at.

@soul man So much in Malachi's short prophecy; and the glorious fact that God does not change is indeed linked with His faithfulness to His pilgrim remnant: "Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name." (Malachi 3.16)

If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
This verse says the opposite of what you mean: knowing and understanding and abiding by the doctrine doesn't allow to do the will of God but doing the will of God allows to know of the doctrine... and to go to Heaven, as Jesus pointed out in Matthew 7:21-23. Jesus was adamant the doctrine is not important (Matthew 11:25 and Luke 10:21)

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
The Truth Jesus is speaking about here is the same Truth as when he says "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life". It isn't an intellectually understandable truth, it isn't a truth which can be found in the doctrine. It is a truth which can only be found in the direct experience of God, for example via prayer.

Totally agree!
I fear some flim flam study as a cursory nod to God.

The word is marrow to my bones, strength to my spirit, peace to my soul and joy to my heart!

I have had times in the valley when I desired but could not focus on nor in the word and it felt like death.

I want every period of God's word applied to my life as the sharpness of the word can cut away the things that displease Him.

Jesus is the word that was with God when creation was formed.I want more of Jesus until my cup runs over and makes a new ocean.

I'm always thankful to hear or see the word.
There is a snack company out of Tennessee, they print a scripture on every bag of chips, it's called " BRIMS". I pray they stay in business until the second coming.

Are you orthodox then?

Lol I had your name once in another forum but I spelled it Gen.2Rev.

I feel too it must all be what we study to know His fullness.I follow NO man,the word has been my milk and now is my meat. The Holy Spirit has never failed to guide me into the truth and doctrine of his word!
I've been to churches that teach false doctrine and the Holy Spirit guided me away from it. Later I realized what they were teaching me wasn't in the bible.

I was looking over the scriptures you gave again. The word doctrine came up a lot, I thought that was interesting.
